InjuryCycle 266x300 Acupuncture Canberra: Acute and Chronic Pain Treatment

Are you afraid of badly healed injuries, thick scar tissue and minimized function after an injury has healed?

If yes – then the article below will be very informative for you. I will explain how you can avoid wound healing that creates excessive scarring, tight tissues and decreased funtionality.

    The aim of acupuncture treatment

The aim of acupuncture is to lower the inflammatory response and to maintain adequate blood flow to the injured area. Once the blood flows, nutrients and oxygen are being delivered to speed up healing.

Metabolic waste removal and nutrient delivery

At the same time metabolic waste will be removed efficiently from the site of injury. Then it makes sense to take specific herbs and supplements to provide to the body what it needs. This is my “secret” for fast wound healing and recovery. Each modality on their own will have less effect.

    Acupuncture induces relaxation

As well the increased level of relaxation of your muscles after massage, acupuncture and soft tissue therapy will allow your blood vessels to deliver more blood and nutrients into the tissues that are affected. This will speed up your recovery dramatically.

    Blood stagnation reduces nutrient delivery

First the delivery system has to work properly then you have to deliver the right building blocks. In a sprained ankle for example when the tissue becomes blue and swollen this is a sign that the blood and energy are stagnated.

The use of acupuncture reduces swelling in acute injury

In this case acupuncture can be used reduce the swelling by bleeding the area and thus removing the circulation and drawing fresh nutrient and oxygen rich blood into the area. Anything that is stagnant will cause long term problems and healing won’t be optimal.

Below I will cover a few nutrients and herbs that will help with your wound healing and recovery.

acupuncture canberra knee pain treatment 267x300 Acupuncture Canberra: Acute and Chronic Pain TreatmentHow to speed up your bone repair

Calcium hydroxyappetite is the most effective form of calcium for bone uptake. Combining it with nutrients like magnesium, boron, lysine, zinc, copper and vitamin D3 increases calcium uptake into the bones.

If your bone is broken and immobilized in a cast there is accelerated bone breakdown and hence increased calcium leaches into the blood. This may increase kidney stone formation. Supplementation is recommended once your cast is removed.

Calcium requires adequate magnesium for ideal uptake into your bones. For those that are both calcium and magnesium deficient, initially supplementing with high doses of calcium and magnesium, then after several months you can move to a combined calcium & magnesium supplement.

What your joints need to heal

Nutrients such as, glucosamine sulphate, type II collagen, gelatine and microcrystalline hydroxyapatite strengthen and repair these tissues and reduce pain and stiffness. Nutrients such as silica, magnesium, lysine, vitamin C and manganese are required for connective tissue strength and repair.

How to lower inflammation in your tissues

Use powerful anti-inflammatory herbs and nutrients, including tumeric, willow bark, ginger and quercetin to rapidly reduce acute pain, swelling, stiffness and/or disability associated with acute injury.

    EPA Fish Oil healing properties

High potency fish oil (EPA) is particularly antinflammatory and helps support to healthy healing. Use EPA’s on a daily level.

acupuncture for fatigue 300x274 Overtrained & tired? Acupuncture can help with adrenal burnout. Acupuncture and Adrenal fatigue

Adrenal fatigue can become a big problem when you over train. Acupuncture might be of great help if you suffer from this condition. Let’s discuss what constitutes adrenal fatigue and some if it’s causes. The sad fact is that many athletes suffer from this condition and may not even realize it.

Adrenal fatigue occurs when your body is subjected to excessive amounts of stress over a longer period of time without adequate rest, nutritional intake or exercise. Long term stress leads to exhaustion and long term exhaustion can lead to fatigue or in the worst case scenario to chronic fatigue.

Your Adrenals influence your libido and sex drive

Your adrenal glands are responsible to manage the fight or flight response when you enter stressful life situations. Your adrenals are also responsible for hormone production that our bodies need on a daily level to function properly. Some of them are sex hormones which will influence your libido and sex drive.

When you are overly stressed, your adrenal glands are overworked by producing cortisol in answer to the stress that you are exposed to. Cortisol will keep you going and energized during the day. The adrenal glands then won’t produce the other hormones that we need to function properly in our daily lives.

acupuncture causes of fatigue 300x278 Overtrained & tired? Acupuncture can help with adrenal burnout.

Signs and Symptoms for Adrenal Fatigue

So what are the signs and symptoms of adrenal fatigue? When you have this problem you do not feel well in the morning without several cups of coffee. As well you will feel like you need a nap in the afternoon. You will always feel like your energy is lacking and you are not able to perform all the tasks that you need to do on a daily basis.

There is a basic lack of drive bordering on depression and moodiness even. Other symptoms of adrenal fatigue include craving a large amount of carbohydrates and being so wired that you have to stay up until the middle of the night even though you feel exhausted the next day.

Use nutrition, herbs & acupuncture to fix it

Adrenal fatigue seems to be more prevalent in women than in men but it does affect both sexes. There have been studies that show that it may be linked to fibromyalgia and hypothyroidism as well. Some things that have been reported to reduce the effects of adrenal fatigue include super foods, Chinese herbal medicines and acupuncture.

Dietary changes include changing the times and amounts of food eaten during the day. Low blood sugar or hypoglycemia can lead to additional stress in your body as well so small frequent meals can improve this situation. Foods should be included in the diet that nurtures the kidney. They are beans, barley, pork, sprouts, eggs, sardines and blueberries.

Boost Kidney Yin first than boost Kidney Yang

Adrenal fatigue is seen in Chinese medicine as a Kidney deficiency. It is treated with the Kidney Yin building herbs in the first step of the treatment which lasts for a period of two to four months. This phase is followed by treatment with the Kidney Yang tonics. Acupuncture points can be stimulated for the kidney and may be self-applied just inside the ankle between the medial malleolus and the Achilles tendon by massaging the area clockwise for five minutes on each side of the foot daily.

    Australia Talks 27 July 2010

Let’s face it – acupuncture is regarded as a modality that delivers results. For many different conditions. And western medicine alone obviously can’t handle our health problem in a preventative and curative way. Only we can help our selves.

More and more Australians are turning to complementary and alternative health services, spending a record $3.5 billion on such treatments last financial year.

What is driving this trend? And is there evidence that these therapies achieve what they promise?
